Well, they liked my story, just not the ending (see my post of Nov. 16).
Turns out that my story is a good one, but the ending is not so hot.
They liked the characterization and setting, but felt the ending lost it and didn't deserve to be part of the story. The ending actually does a disservice to the rest of the story. Ironic because it was the ending that helped me create the story.
I don't normally have a good time with endings, but I felt that since it was the ending that gave birth to the story, it fit. Now I have to go back to the drawing board. I need an ending that fits the story, or rather, is befitting of the story.
The publisher has given me the option to re-write the ending if I want to still consider them. I do want to still consider them. So I'm going to re-do the ending. It's been about a week and a half since I told them I'd rework the ending. I'm just having trouble coming up with something that will be as good as the rest of the story and make sense. I have something in mind. I'll let you know what happens when I resubmit.
